To be fulfilled means to be satisfied or happy because of fully developing one’s abilities or character. It is to be satisfied, pleased and at peace with one’s self. Notice in the definition it has nothing to do with fulfillment coming from another person. Fulfillment comes from the feeling of happiness and satisfaction. This too cannot be dependent on people or things to fill that whole in your soul.
True fulfillment can only come from one source and that source is God. I’m a firm believer that God has saved a sacred place in each person’s heart just for Him. That’s why some people may feel like something is missing but they may not know exactly what it is or how to fill it.
When I was younger, I looked for fulfillment through relationships. Let me tell you I DID NOT know how to be single lol. As a matter of fact, I ran from singleness because I didn’t want to be alone. I didn’t know how to be alone and quite frankly it terrified me. I wanted to feel…….wanted. I just had this feeling that the only way for me to be happy is if I was with someone. In other words, I was looking for other people to fulfill me. I was looking for someone else to give me happiness, I was looking for someone to love me, to value me, to teach me how to trust, and to solve that empty/lonely feeling I had inside. Everyone I seemed to date couldn’t do it. As a matter of fact, I still felt like something was missing no matter who the person was. It did nothing but leave me with even more baggage, more hurt, more trust issues, and more emptiness. I put unrealistic expectations on people and things and still couldn’t seem to be happy.
Way too often we thirst for fulfillment but we look to satisfy that thirst by worldly aspects. We seek acceptance from people, we try to fit into cliques where we don’t belong. People may also turn to food, drugs, and even sex to help fill that void. Psalm 107:9 states: “For He satisfies the parched throat, and fills the hungry appetite with what is good.” Everything you are looking for; everything that you thirst for God is the ultimate satisfier. He fulfills every need. I now understand why David said the Lord is my Shepherd and he is no longer in want. When you have been filled by Him, your wants and needs are satisfied. You don’t have to turn to people, food, drugs, sex or even porn. Sin can never fulfill you! It will only leave you wanting more and more until you have to pay the wages for it!!!!
God called me into singleness because He wanted me; and wanted me all to Himself. Yes, God can call you into singleness for many reasons. Finally, I felt wanted and the feeling of loneliness was gone. He wanted my full and undivided attention. He wanted me to experience true fulfillment in Him and let me tell you,,,,,what a mighty gift it is. That gift is something that nobody can take away from you. It kind of reminds me of that old school song, “this joy that I have,,,the world didn’t give it to me and the world cant take it away” for “In your presence is fullness of joy and in your right hand there are pleasures forevermore” Psalm 16:11. When you are fulfilled through the right source you see life differently. You embrace your uniqueness and being popular and most liked will not be at the top of your list. Let the true source (God) fulfill you so that you will lack nothing!!!!!!!!
John 6:35 Amplified Bible (AMP)
35 Jesus replied to them, “[a]I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me [as Savior] will never be thirsty [for that one will be sustained spiritually].
